A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A POLICY FOR THE COLLECTION OF AMOUNTS DUE TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO FOR SERVICES AND/OR MATERIALS PROVIDED TO CITIZENS OR OTHER ENTITIES, INCLUDING AUTHORITY FOR THE REMOVAL OF UNCOLLECTIBLE AMOUNTS FROM THE FINANCIAL RECORDS.

BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, THAT:

 

Section 1:      It shall be the policy of the City of Jonesboro to utilize any and all reasonable and available efforts to collect in a timely manner all amounts legally due the City which result from providing services and/or materials to citizens or other entities in the conduct of the City's affairs in accordance with its municipal charter.

 

Section 2:      The accumulation of uncollectible delinquent debt may contribute to the overstatement of the City's financial position due to the continued financial reporting of delinquent debt as amounts receivable by the City after all reasonable and available collection efforts have occurred.

 

Section 3:      The Mayor, or his designated representative, is hereby authorized to remove from the City's financial records, upon authorization by the City Council, delinquent debt due the City by citizens and other entities after all reasonable and available collection efforts have occurred.

 

Section 4:      The collection of any and all delinquent amounts removed from the City's financial records shall be subsequently pursued if feasible, and any amounts subsequently recovered shall be deposited to the City's treasury and recognized as revenues in the period of collection.

 

BE IT SO RESOLVED AND ADOPTED THIS 3RD DAY OF AUGUST, 1998.
