CITY COUNCIL MINUTES MARCH 21, 1977

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, March 21, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Smith and Shepard.

Ann Clark representing the Nettleton Acorn Group, and Alice Taylor of the North/East Acorn Group read letters to council disapproving of the $45,000 expenditure for improvements to the Downtown area, and recommending that the amount be spent on Housing & Improvements and drainage.

Mr. Sanderson moved that any action on the request be tabled, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. All voted aye.

Mrs. Fredrika Gray, 723 Washington requested that council rescind previous actions on the condemnation of her house. The request denied for lack of a motion.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE DOWNTOWN JONESBORO IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 1 OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

Mr. Sanderson moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Park. All voted aye and the ordinance was given #1567.

Mr. Minx moved that the contractor who had begun demolition work at the proper located at 723 E. Washington make restitution for the property already removed and that demolition be delayed for two weeks. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shepard and received unanimous vote of council.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 3; ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY RESIDENTIAL (R-1); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
