AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING LEFT TURNS ONTO CHURCH STREET OUT OF THE CHURCH STREET PARKING LOT; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1:  From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, no person, firm or corporation shall make a left turn onto Church Street out of the Church Street parking lot.

 

SECTION 2:  The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs reading “NO LEFT TURN” at appropriate places at the exit of said parking lot, and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down remove or mutilate such signs.

 

SECTION 3:  Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed $15.00, with each day a violation continues to be a separate offense.

 

SECTION 4:  It is found and declared by the City Council that due to the greatly increased traffic and congestion in the vicinity of this parking lot, the turning left of vehicles onto Church Street from the Church Street parking lot, creates a traffic hazard and resulting injuries to persons and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, and emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 8th day of January, 1968.
