RESOLUTION TO DRAFT DOCUMENTS FOR THE VOTERS REGARDING ISSUING BONDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FIRE STATIONS AND A CITY HALL

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro is faced with the necessity of establishing a second fire station in the City to meet requirements of the rating bureau or its inhabitants will suffer a substantial increase in fire insurance rates on property in the city; and

 

WHEREAS, there is imperative need for enlarged quarters for the existing fire station as well as space for the use of other branches of the city government;

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Attorney be instructed to draft such documents as will be necessary to submit to the qualified electors of the City of Jonesboro the question of issuing 180,000 general obligation bonds under the provisions of Amendment No. 13 to the Constitution of Arkansas;

 

Resolved further that all moneys to be paid by the City Water and Light Plant to the “contingency fund” be earmarked for and used in the retirement of these bonds so that any ad valorem tax, although voted, need not be extended and collected; and

 

Resolved further that the present balance in the contingency fund (approximately $78,000.00) be used to defray a portion of the construction costs of a new fire sub-station and a City Hall including a central fire station.
