RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS PROVIDING FOR A STRUCTURAL INSPECTION OF THE JUSTICE COMPLEX

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, in 1994 and 1995 renovated an existing 40-year old structure located at 410 W. Washington and which is currently referred to as the Justice Complex;

 

WHEREAS, in 1995 within the first year of the renovation, at least one of this structure’s original main roof trusses failed or nearly failed and repairs were made to the structure which was inspected and certified as safe by the structure’s original structural engineer in January 1996;

 

WHEREAS, the age of the original structure is approaching 50 years; the structure has experienced structural problems within the last eight years, and the structure has not been inspected by a structural engineer in seven and one-half years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Infrastructure Committee of the Jonesboro City Council recommended a cursory inspection of the structure by the original structural engineer;

 

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Jonesboro City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor and the City Clerk to enter into an agreement with William T. Gavin, P.E., the Justice Complex’s original structural engineer, for the purpose of conducting a cursory, one-day inspection of the Justice Complex to determine if any structural changes have occurred which would require a more thorough inspection.
