AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF MONROE AVENUE AS A ONE-WAY STREET: PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFORE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: From and after the passage and adoption of this ordinance it shall be unlawful to operate any vehicle upon Monroe Avenue between the intersection of Monroe Avenue between the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Union Street and the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Carson Street in any direction other than East.

 

SECTION 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him shall place and locate appropriate signs upon which shall be written “One Way Only” or words to that effect, and by arrow or other means indicate the direction of travel upon the above described avenue, and it shall be unlawful for any person to tear down or remove said signs or mutilate same without authority from the Chief of Police, and by him only when acting under authority granted by the Council.

 

SECTION 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $15.00.

 

SECTION 4: It being found that the traffic situation at the above location is congested and dangerous, and this ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and the same shall be in full force and effect immediately after its passage.
