PARKS

Joe Mack Campbell Park Baseball Addition

Mr. Wilkie presented the bids for the construction of three addition baseball fields at Joe Mack Campbell Park.  Mr. Wilkie said that the bids came in much higher ($500,000) higher than expected for the project.  Most of the increase was due to the dirt work and concrete.  The dirt work must be performed to get the fields and (the possibility of a future concession stand) out of the flood plain.  Many options were looked at including 1) enlarging the retention pond to 4-5 acres just north of the park to alleviate flooding in the neighborhood just north of the park, 2) Eliminating the lighting 3) Reducing the number of fields.  4) Having the City and County perform the dirt work 5)  Requesting a budget amendment for $50,000 worth of concrete.  6) Paying for the pavilions and the fencing out of the 2006 budget.  Mr. Light answered questions about the bids.  There were no solutions utilizing the existing bids.  It was moved that the committee reject all of the bids, the project be reduced to 2 fields and re-bid as a two field project.  The motion passed 5-0.
