AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

 

Section 1: The City Council finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public and pedestrians of certain streets, intersections and along certain streets and that certain traffic control devices are to be established and placed at the following intersections and streets:

 

A. Stop signs to be placed at the intersection of Madison and College for traffic on Madison to stop for traffic on College.

B. Stop signs to be placed at the intersection of Hurricane Derive and College, for traffic on Hurricane Drive to stop for traffic on College.

 

Section 2: The drivers of all vehicles shall obey all traffic control signs per instruction on the face thereof.

 

Section 3: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is directed to place and locate upon the above described streets at the proper place appropriate signs designating traffic control as set out above and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than $50.00.

 

Section 5: All ordinances and or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused or will cause danger to life and property; and that therefore, this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
