WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro recognizes the need to address the developing criminal gang issues within the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and;

WHEREAS the City of Jonesboro desires to put into place proactive law enforcement measures to address criminal gang issues and that sufficient funds exist at the time of the passage of this resolution within the police department's 2008 budget to provide for such with the understanding that changes in the attrition rate in the department may require additional funds at years end;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas to employ five (5) additional Police Officers and one temporary part-time Criminal Gang Intelligence Civilian for the purpose of developing and implementing a comprehensive Criminal Gang Enforcement Unit.
