CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - MAY 15, 2000
The Jonesboro City Council met Monday, May 15, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. A full quorum was in attendance. Present were: Mayor Hubert Brodell, City Clerk Donna Jackson, City Attorney, Phillip Crego, and 12 council members. Those members were: Kelton, Tate, McCall, Young, Crockett, Rorex, Rega, Province, Copeland, Moore, Perrin and Roddy.
Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilman Moore to approve the minutes as previously provided. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members voting aye were: Kelton, Tate, McCall, Young, Crockett, Rorex, Rega, Province, Copeland, Moore, Perrin and Roddy.
Mayor Brodell made the following presentations:
•Crowley’s Ridge Girl Scout Troop 193 and Adult Troop Leader, Laura McCain for the completion of a Youth Service Arkansas community project.
•National Peace Officers Memorial Week - May 15 - 19, 2000 and National Peace Officers Day - May 17, 2000
Council reviewed the following legal documents pertaining to the 1% sales and use tax:
A-1 Councilman Young moved, seconded by Councilman Moore for the adoption of a resolution stating the Jonesboro City Council’s intent for calling a special election for a one percent (1%) city sales and use tax; stating the City Council’s priority list for Capital Improvement and other funds collected from said tax; and for other purposes. A roll call vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Tate, McCall, Young, Crockett, Rorex, Rega, Province, Copeland, Moore, Perrin and Roddy. The resolution was assigned number 2000:21.
A-2 The following ordinance was on the third and final reading:
ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY OF A ONE PERCENT SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS; ONE HALF (1/2) OF ALL PROCEEDS DERIVED FROM THE SALES AND USE TAX WILL BE FOR FINANCING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS OF A PUBLIC NATURE AND THE REMAIN...
