RESOLUTION TO PLEDGE SUPPORT TO AHTD AND THE FHA FOR THE I-66 ROUTE

WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States, as part of the Intermodel Service transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, has generally between I-40 on the south and I-70 on the north, and identified as "I-66 Feasibility Study," and;

WHEREAS, appropriate consultants, both in and out of the federal government, are gathering data in order to more precisely pinpoint a corridor;

WE HEREBY RESOLVE THAT:

WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 412 is already designated as a high priority corridor on the national highway system of the Intermodel Surface Transportation Efficiency Act and;

WHEREAS, approximately $110 million of federal funds has already been designated to improve U.S. Highway 412 from the Oklahoma state line eastward to Mountain Home, Arkansas, and;

WHEREAS, construction work is underway from the Oklahoma state line to Springdale, Arkansas, with design studies beginning east of Springdale to Mountain Home and;

WHEREAS, U.S. 412 best serves the Branson, Eureka Springs, Harrison, high growth tourist area, the highest in the United States and;

WHEREAS, U.S. 412 route in Arkansas reflects the demographic shift of population and business to the southern United States;

WHEREAS, the Chambers of Commerce in the corridor in Northeast Arkansas, namely Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce, Paragould-Greene County Area Chamber of Commerce, Randolph County Chamber of Commerce and Walnut Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce have endorsed the use of the U.S. 412 corridor as the appropriate "I-66" route.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas endorses and pledge their support and cooperation to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, as well as the Federal Highway Administration and other appropriate state and federal agencies, to see that this project would be carried out in a manner that would be pleasing and advantageous to the people of the Unite...
