RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT A REQUEST FROM CONGRESS FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO ACCOMMODATE THE PROPOSED I-730 IN THE PROPOSED SIX YEAR FEDERAL HIGHWAY BILL

WHEREAS, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has held a Public Involvement Session to gain input for the connector highway between U.S. 67 (Proposed Future 1-30 and U.S. 49; and
WHEREAS, the 1991 State Highway improvement Program calls for State Highway 226 from the new location of U.S. 67 (Proposed Future I-30 to U.S. 49)to be a four lane, undivided highway; and
WHEREAS, the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce Streets & Highways Committee has been studying this proposition and the need to connect U.S. Highway 67 (Proposed Future I-30)and U.S. 49, and eventually with U.S. 63 (Future I-555); and
WHEREAS, this study has been encouraged by the Jonesboro Industrial Development Corporation, and a previous Resolution (#03-2), that this highway plan be upgraded to interstate connector status:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT THE CITY SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The new highway connector between U.S. 67(proposed future I-30) from its new location to U.S. 49 at Gibson Switch, be located approximately one mile south of the current State Highway 226.
2. For this new highway (Proposed I-730) to have interstate-type right of ways for the roadbed and interchange and overpasses, and that the funds that would be expended to meet these 1991 State Highway program project for this corridor be used to plan and purchase the right of way and build the first two lanes of this project.
3. Immediately start construction for the U.S. 49 five lane project to continue from the Valley View community along its present route to Gibson Switch.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Jonesboro would support a request from the Congress of additional funds to accommodate the proposed I-730 as the 226 Corridor as listed in the ...
