RESOLUTION TO RENEW THE CONTRACT FOR HEALTH INSURANCE WITH BLUE CROSS, BLUE SHIELD FOR CITY OF JONESBORO EMPLOYEES

WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro offers Medical Insurance coverage for employees; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Cross, Blue Shield contract negotiated in 2003 had an option for an additional two years of coverage; and
WHEREAS, in 2003 the premium was decreased by 9%, in 2004 the premium remained the same, and in 2005 the premium will increase by 8% giving us a minus 1% in premiums for a three year period;
WHEREAS, the trend for employer groups for the past three (3) years has been in double-digits;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, that the option to renew the contract for health insurance with Blue Cross, Blue Shield for the third year of the contract be accepted and become effective January 1, 2005.
