CITY COUNCIL MINUTES APRIL 4, 1977

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, April 4, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk, and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Smith and Shepard.

Hillis Pratt presented to council, petitions which were signed by business people who were opposed to “No Parking” on Main. Mr. Smith moved that the matter be referred to the Parking Committee of council along with the Parking Authority, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. All voted aye.

The Mayor advised council that Gladys Montague has offered to sell the northwest corner of Jefferson and Union for $113,500.00, with 25% down. The matter was referred to the Parking Committee.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE, PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Hannah moved that the rezoning request be denied, second by Mr. Minx. Mr. Sanderson then moved that the request be tabled, seconded by Mr. Park. Voting aye: Park, Sanderson, Shelton, Stricklin, Smith and Shepard. Voting nay: Hinson, Bridger, Hannah, Haigler and Province. Motion failed. Voting aye on the original motion: Hinson, Shelton, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin and Province. Voting nay: Park, Sanderson, Bridger, Smith and Shepard. Motion passed.

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE, PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Minx moved that the ordinance be amended, by changing the zoning from C-3 to C-2, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. All voted aye. Mr. Stricklin then moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, second by Mr. Hinson. All voted aye and the ordinance was given #1569.
