Item #1 SP91-8 Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. requested approval of site development plans for the Wal-Mart Supercenter. The building contains 169,000 sq. Ft. and will be located on the south side of Highland Drive, east of Brown’s Lane and north of Grant Street.
After a considerable amount of discussion concerning the placement of the building near the southern border of the property and problems with traffic flow and the alternatives to the same situations a motion was made by Mr. McCracken to not take any action on eh request at this meeting and ask the property owners to have a traffic study prepared by and for the City Engineer to review and come back with a recommendation for possible changes or enhancements, if any are necessary. The study should include the possibility of a right turn lane off Highland Drive for east bound traffic and the possibility of a left turn lane on Brown’s Lane for south bound traffic. The intersection of Brown’s Lane and Highland Drive and the traffic signal should be included in the study also, as well as Highland Drive and Caraway Road. MOTION APPROVED NO ACTION TAKEN.
