RESOLUTION TO ASSIST OFFICIALS IN ACQUIRING LOCAL PROPERTY FOR THE PROPOSED STATE VOCATIONAL TRAINING FACILITY IN JONESBORO

WHEREAS, the rapid growth of industry in our state, area, and city has greatly increased the need for additional trade, industrial, and technical training facilities for our citizens, and
WHEREAS, funds allocated by federal and state sources for the purpose of providing these training facilities should be distributed on the basis of demonstrated need for the curses to be offered, and
WHEREAS, our city has demonstrated by supporting and encouraging in all ways possible a pilot program of this type since 1959 known as the Northeast Arkansas Vocational Technical School, which serves not only the employees of the industries located in our community, but also those in a number of surrounding communities as well, and
WHEREAS, Jonesboro is strategically located in the center of a rapidly developing industrial area, it appears logical that the needs of industry throughout Northeast Arkansas would best be served by the location of one of the proposed new State Vocational Training facilities at Jonesboro;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Jonesboro in regular session that 17th day of February, 1964, that this recommendation be unanimously approved and copies forwarded to the designated officials of the State Department of Education currently making a study of possible sites for the facility, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, every possible effort will be made by the Mayor and members of the City Council to assist these officials in acquiring local property for the facility, and in such other matters as may arise regarding municipal services under the jurisdiction of this body.
