A RESOLUTION NOTIFYING THE CRAIGHEAD COUNTY SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL AUTHORITY AND BOARD OF THE CLOSING OF THE CITY’S CLASS IV LANDFILL ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 31, 2005

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, through its engineer, Northstar Engineering Consultants, has filed a closure plan with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality to close its Class IV landfill on or about December 31, 2005; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro currently does not nor does it plan to have its permitted Class IV landfill under construction and/or operating on or before December 31, 2005, due to on-going litigation and other matters; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro’s existing Class IV landfill will reach its capacity on or before December 31, 2005, per Northstar’s estimates.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, THAT:
The City of Jonesboro is formally notifying the Craighead County Solid Waste Disposal Authority and Board that on or about October 1, 2005, the City will begin directing all or part of Class IV material currently accepted at the City’s landfill site to the Authority’s Class I landfill in accordance with state law.
