CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, APRIL 18, 1983

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, April 18, 1983, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all aldermen.

The minutes of April 4, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Sanderson, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye.

The following bid was up for review:
A) Fire Department Uniforms - A motion from Mr. Hannah to accept the bid from Kays Uniforms (low Bid), seconded by Mr. Hinson. All voted aye.

Mr. Sanderson made a motion to reject a mobile home at 1720 Arch Street seconded by Mr. Smith. All voted aye. Rejection carried.

Mr. Shelton offered the following ordinance: (Stop sign at Scenic & Ridge Road and No Parking sign on west side of Fisher from NW corner of Word North 300 feet.)

Mr. Park explained to the council that Mr. John Fowler - Mgr. of Fred P. Gattas - has expressed his concern of transit peddlers being allowed to sell items to citizens in Jonesboro. Not only were they in competition with established firms but also left citizens unprotected on items with warranty. A recommendation by Mr. Sanderson to have the city attorney check into such peddlers was made, seconded by Mr. Shelton. All voted aye. The city attorney is to report findings back to the council at the next meeting.

Dr. Smith made the following recommendation, seconded by Mr. Hannah: That a total of $1,364.59 from the unappropriated funds be used to make capital improvements for the Civil Service Commission office. $476.96 of the total amount is to be used to improve the room itself where the balance of $887.63 to be used to furnish the room. All voted aye.

Dr. Smith then made the following recommendations, seconded by Mr. Sanderson: A total of $400.00 from the appropriated funds to be divided and used by the Police and Fire Department budgets. The $200.00 in each budget is to be used by the Civil Service Commission for operating expense...
