AN ORDINANCE EXPRESSING THE WILLINGNESS OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO UTILIZE THE FEDERAL COMMUNITY POLICING & BUDGET GRANT, FOR THE PURPOSE OF HIRING TWO POLICE OFFICERS

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas understands a Federal-Aid Grant, known as COPS FAST, a Community Policing and Budget grant is available at 75 % Federal participation over a three year period, to be used for two additional police officer positions.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that:

 

SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro will participate in accordance with its designated responsibility, including the appropriation of city matched funds in the amount of $4,954.00 to come from unappropriated sales tax.

 

SECTION 2: As Chief Executive Officer, Mayor Hubert Brodell is hereby authorized and directed to execute all appropriate agreements and contracts necessary to expedite the hiring of the two additional police positions.

 

SECTION 3: The City Council of the City of Jonesboro pledges its full support and hereby authorizes the initiation of the COPS FAST Federal Grant Program.

 

SECTION 4: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, shall take effect and be in full force from and after its' passage and approval.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 2nd day of May, 1995
