RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE WILLINGNESS OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE FY2024 REBUILDING AMERICAN INFRASTRUCTURE WITH SUSTAINABILITY AND EQUITY (RAISE) GRANT

WHEREAS, the application process is now open and is accepting proposals for the U.S. Department of Transportation FY 2024 RAISE grant; and
WHEREAS, as the lead applicant, the City of Jonesboro will enter into a regional partnership with the City of Paragould and submit the application; and
WHEREAS, the project will provide a foundation for a future regional multi-modal trail network that will improve quality of life, increase economic competiveness, and provide safe, efficient, and equitable infrastructure for active transportation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has proposed to complete 10.70 miles of multi-modal trail within the city limits, with 83% of trail miles routed through historically disadvantaged communities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paragould has proposed to complete 4.75 miles of multi-modal trail within the city limits, with 73% of trail miles routed through historically disadvantaged communities; and
WHEREAS, the project aligns with the One Jonesboro Master Connectivity Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro is requesting up to $25,000,000 in RAISE grant funding to construct needed pedestrian infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Jonesboro City Council supports the submission of the FY24 RAISE Grant application to the United States Department of Transportation.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, AR to execute all necessary documents to effectuate this application.
