SPECIAL CALLED MEETING- SEPTEMBER 11, 2003

The Jonesboro City Council met Thursday, September 11, 2003, at 12:00 p.m. in a special called meeting of the Jonesboro City Council. A full quorum was in attendance. Present were: Mayor Hubert Brodell, City Clerk, Donna K. Jackson, and seven council members. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Williams, Street, Dover, and McCall. Councilmen Moore, Perrin, Young and Roddy were unable to attend.

Interviews were conducted with Ward 5 candidates Judy Furr of 2205 Oak Hollow Cove and Clifford Toney of 4101 South Stadium Blvd. Each candidate was allotted five minutes for an introduction and approximately fifteen minutes to respond to questions asked by council members. Questions asked of each candidate were: What are the current problems facing the City of Jonesboro and what approach should be taken; What do they see as the most pressing issues in the near future; What do they see as their responsibility should they be appointed as a member of the Jonesboro City Council. The Jonesboro City Council will make a decision regarding the appointment of the council position on September 15, 2003, at its regularly scheduled council meeting.

Councilman Farmer announced a special called Finance Committee meeting immediately following the special called City Council meeting. The purpose of the finance committee meeting was to discuss options regarding the city’s health insurance policy.

Councilman Farmer provided copies of a proposed resolution pertaining to a change order and allocation of funds for the MATA Matthews Avenue Construction Project II. He explained the resolution was not prepared in time to be placed on the agenda and questioned members of the council present if they objected to it being addressed under new business at their regularly scheduled council meeting for September 15, 2003.
