RESOLUTION REQUIRING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO CEASE THE SERVICE OF FILLING FIRE EXTINGUISHERS EXCEPT THOSE USED BY THE CITY

WHEREAS the Fire Department of the City of Jonesboro has been performing a public service for many years by filling fire extinguishers free of charge, or a minimum charge, for the reason that such services were not otherwise offered within the City of Jonesboro, and

WHEREAS there has recently been established in the City a private business dealing primarily in the sale, filling and maintenance of all types of fire extinguishers, which business represents itself as being capable of handling all of the extinguishers located in the City; and

WHEREAS it is not the intention of the City of Jonesboro to be in competition with private enterprise under these circumstances, its only intention being to provide a service where it was not otherwise available;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City that the Fire Department of the City of Jonesboro immediately cease the service of filling fire extinguishers except those used by the City of Jonesboro.
