RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO APPOINT A METROPOLITAN AREA TRAFFIC AUTHORITY

WHEREAS, the growth of Jonesboro and increased activity in the retail and medical areas of the City have caused congestion on the streets and highways both within and leading into the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro.

 

WHEREAS, this pattern of growth is expected to continue and probably accelerate during coming years, and with this projected growth traffic congestion will become more severe.

 

WHEREAS, this increasing traffic congestion could result in extreme hardship for citizens of Jonesboro and could result in economic losses for businesses, industries and institutions of the City of Jonesboro.

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Jonesboro is authorized to appoint a Metropolitan Area Traffic Authority.

 

THAT, the Metropolitan Area Traffic Authority be charged with the responsibility of preparing a long-range plan for the routing of traffic within the City of Jonesboro and making recommendations for the routine of traffic from outlying areas into the City of Jonesboro.

 

THAT, the Metropolitan Area Traffic Authority be authorized to employ consultants to assist with the traffic study and recommendations, and that necessary funds be provided for the purpose.

 

THAT, the Metropolitan Area Traffic Authority, complete its traffic study, long-range plan and recommendations, within one calendar year of its appointment.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of July, 1990.
