CALLED MEETING - AUGUST 31, 1989

                     

A called meeting of the Jonesboro City Council was held at 5:30 p.m. on August 31, 1989, at City Hall. Present were Mayor, City Clerk, and Aldermen Park, Stricklin, Bridger, Evans, Shelton, Province, Sanderson, Strauser, Hinson, and Nix.

 

Mr. Stricklin offered a resolution that the City is authorized and directed to sell lot 16 of the Jonesboro Industrial Mini-Park to O.S. Kelly Co. for the sum of Twenty One Thousand Dollars ($21,000.00). Mr. Stricklin moved, seconded by Mr. Park for the adoption of resolution. All voted aye. The resolution was given the number 1989-43.

 

The Mayor announced that Chief Dean Bradley’s retirement would be effective September 30, 1989, and that Asst. Chief Dan Emison would be receiving a disability retirement, after having been approved by Dr. W. F. Shepard. The Civil Service Commission is proceeding with the selection process of replacements for the positions.

 

The Mayor recognized former Mayor and Alderman Herbert Sanderson who served as Mayor from 1954-1966 and Alderman from 1975-1989, and Ralph Stricklin who served as Alderman from 1952-1989 with the exception of a four-year period. Both gentlemen have served the City of Jonesboro and the Arkansas Municipal League in excess of twenty-five (25) years and the Arkansas Municipal League’s Executive director, Don Zimmerman and the City of Jonesboro recognized their civic service and presented certificates of appreciation to both men. He also recognized Ralph “Pop” Stricklin for having received the Exchange Club “Book of Golden Deeds Award” for outstanding service to the Community.

 

The meeting adjourned and the Council viewed the used fire truck purchase proposed by the Fire Chief on the VCR.

 

With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
