AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NUMBER 1536 BEING AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE POSITION OF PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/ CITY ENGINEER FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS; PRESCRIBING THE QUALIFICATIONS THEREOF AND RESPONSIBILITIES THEREOF

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro. Arkansas:
Section 1: Section 1 of Ordinance number 1536 shall be amended to read as follows:
There is hereby created and established the position of Public Works Director/ City Engineer of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas. The said City Engineer shall be appointed by a standing committee consisting of the Mayor, Chairmen of the Street, Sanitation, and Cemetery Committees. Conformation subject to a majority vote of the City Council of the City of Jonesboro and shall serve and hold office at the will and discretion of the Mayor and City Council. Everyday operations of this office will be supervised by the Mayor. The Mayor has the authority to suspend such person until a full hearing of the City Council can be held. Final authority shall be determined by a majority of City Council.
Section 2: It is found and declared by the City Council that this ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety. Therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
