CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, MAY 7, 1984

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, May 7, 1984, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and all aldermen.

The minutes of April 16, 1984, and April 23, 1984, were approved on motion by Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Shelton. All voted aye.

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading: (Motorcycles at Craighead Forest)

AN ORDINANCE TO BAN THE OPERATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES IN CRAIGHEAD FOREST PARK EXCEPT ON ROADS AND DESIGNATED AREAS; PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

Mr. Gary A Wells, a landfill committee member, presented a report made by his committee addressing the problem of barrel removal at the city landfill. A copy of the report was filed with the city clerk and may be reviewed at City Hall.

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, to appoint the following names to the Landfill Commission: Gary Wells, Irwin Becnel, Ron Bowen, Ron Carmack, Herb Sanderson. All voted aye. Motion passed.

After a discussion by landowners and the council, Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, to approve plans by McDonald’s Corp. to use city right-of-way on underdeveloped South Main. The motion included that the McDonald’s Corp. (Mr. Robards) met with Judy Henson to draft a lease for $1.00 per year so that the city will be released from all liability and will be able to revoke the lease as needed. All voted aye except Mr. Nix, Mr. Province, Mr. Sanderson, and Mr. Hinson. Motion passed.

Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton, to hold a public hearing on May 21, 1984, at 6:30 p. m. at City Hall concerning a rezoning appeal on property owned by Gladis Kissinger. All voted aye.

Mr. Shelton moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin to hold a public hearing on May 21, 1984, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall concerning a street closing - Primrose Street. All voted aye.
