CITY COUNCIL MINUTES DECEMBER 19, 1977

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, December 19, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. Present for roll call: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Province and Shepard. Absent for roll call: Haigler, Stricklin and Smith.

Mr. Park moved that the minutes of December 5, 1977, be approved as mailed, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all voted aye.

Mr. Hannah moved for the adoption of the 1978 Budget, seconded by Mr. Minx. Voting aye: Park, Hinson, Bridger, Minx, Hannah and Province. Voting nay: Sanderson, Shelton and Shepard. Motion failed.

Mr. Smith and Mr. Stricklin are now present.

Mr. Joe Champeau presented a report to council on the Downtown Improvements plan for improvements to Main Place, after which Mr. Park offered the following resolution:

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ASSESSMENTS FOR THE DOWNTOWN DISTRICT PLAN OF IMPROVEMENT AND NAMING ASSESSORS

Mr. Minx moved for the adoption of the resolution, seconded by Mr. Smith, all present voting aye. The resolution was given the number 1977:21.

The Mayor recommended Mr. Wilson Cox and Mr. Thayer Marsh to serve on the Electrical Board and advised council that he would ask for their approval January 3rd.

On motion by Mr. Hinson, seconded by Mr. Minx, and unanimous vote of council, the next council meeting is scheduled for January 3rd.

Mr. Sanderson moved that a Public Hearing on Flintrol Act 9 Bond Issue, be set for 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd, seconded by Mr. Park, all aye.

A Public Hearing was also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on January 3rd for the purpose of hearing a request for a taxi permit. The motion was made by Mr. Minx, seconded by Mr. Smith and received unanimous vote of council.
