AN ORDINANCE TO WAIVE COMPETITIVE BIDDING AND AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF SUPPLEMENT SHORT TERM DISABILITY AND SUPPLEMENTAL LONG TERM DISABILITY.

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that:
SECTION 1: That the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, needs to purchase short and long term disability insurance.
SECTION 2: That said insurance may be purchased from Unum Provident Insurance Company to replace policies that are being terminated by Baltimore Life’s decision to no longer maintain STD and LTD policies.
SECTION 3: That the City Council in accord with the terms of A.C.A. Section 14-58-303 hereby waives the requirement of competitive bidding and directs the Purchasing Agent to purchase the above described insurance from Unum Provident.
SECTION 4: It is further found that due to immediate need to acquire the insurance, an emergency is declared to exist and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, it shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
