CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 3, 1984

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday January 3, 1984, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and all aldermen expect Mr. Hinson.

 

The minutes of December 19, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Shelton. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Win Thompson from A.S.U. spoke to the council about the progress of the new Convocation Center at Arkansas State.

 

Mr. Sanderson offered the following ordinance: (R-3 to C-3 Sheens prop. Caraway Rd.)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

 

Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Nix to suspend the rules and place the ordinance on 2nd reading. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Dr. Smith to amend an ordinance concerning placement of NO PARKING signs on Dewey Street and on Vera Street. All voted aye.

 

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading: (Jonesboro Ford Tractor Annex)

 

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS: ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 6; ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY COMMERCIAL (C-3); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Sanderson, to approve the ordinance with the emergency clause. All voted aye except Mr. Hannah and Mr. Mays. Motion passed. The ordinance was given the number 1852.

 

Concerning the Nora Hopkins discrimination case, Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Dr. Smith to instruct the City Attorney to further negotiate fees by Ms. Hopkins attorneys. All voted aye.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
