A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF JONESBORO’S APPLICATION FOR THE 2008 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas has met with Valley View Public Schools, Nettleton Public Schools and Jonesboro Public Schools seeking a collaboration to improve routes to school for Jonesboro children;

 

WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to School grant is a 100% grant administered by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department and will require no match from the City of Jonesboro;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, is seeking funds for solar powered school signals for all K-8 schools in Jonesboro, Valley View and Nettleton School Districts and sidewalk improvements around MacArthur, and West schools;

 

WHEREAS, in order to obtain the funds from AHTD, it is necessary to pass a resolution approving application to the Safe Routes to School Grant;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:

 

SECTION 1: That the Mayor, Doug Formon is hereby authorized to make application to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department for assistance in installing solar powered school signals and sidewalks for safer routes to school; therefore such application shall be submitted as expediently as possible.
