AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE STOP SIGNS ON CERTAIN STREETS AT THEIR INTERSECTION WITH OTHER STREETS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas;

Section 1: The City Council finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public at certain intersections and that stop signs are hereby established and placed at the following intersections:

(a) Stop signs on Owens Street at the intersection with Wood Street;
(b) Stop signs on Sims Street at its intersection with wood Street;
(c) Stop signs on Wood Springs Road at its intersection with Wood Street;
(d) Stop signs to be placed on Miller Street and Allen Street at their intersection, making a four-way stop;
(e) Stop signs on Richmond Street at its intersection with Kitchen Street.
(f) 4-way stop signs at Madison and Oak
(g) Richmond at its intersection with Kitchen.

Section 2: The drivers of all vehicles shall stop at said “Stop Signs” and yield the right-of-way to vehicles traveling upon the other streets before entering thereon or passing across.

Section 3: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described streets at the proper places, appropriate signs reading “STOP” and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by fine of not more than $15.00.

Section 5: All Ordinances and/or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused danger to life and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist a...
