Minutes for the City Council meeting on July 21, 1969

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, July 21, 1969, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Turner, Dr. Bowers, Young, Stricklin, Minx, Bowers, Williams, Johnson and Knight. Absent: Pardew and Darling.
At the recommendation of the downtown merchants, Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Minx seconding the motion that Lots 1 and 6 be leased to them for $1800.00 per year. On calling the roll, all present voted aye and the motion carried.
The following ordinance was read for the first time:
AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARK., BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT DATED JUNE 11, 1969; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 1; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Turner moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. All present voted aye and the motion carried.
The following ordinance was read for the first time:

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. All present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Stricklin moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. All present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Minx then moved with Mr. Stricklin seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All voted aye and the motion carried. On motion by Knight, seconded by Pierce to adopt Emergency Clause passed unanimously. The ordinance was given the number 1234.
