AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON PORTIONS OF CERTAIN STREETS AT CERTAIN TIMES; PROVIDING PENALTIES OF VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, no person, firm or corporation shall park, stop or leave standing any vehicle of any kind whatsoever on the following streets or portions of streets as follows from 2: a.m. to 5: a.m.:

 

(a)                     Main Street from Railroad Tracts South the Nettleton Avenue.

(b)                     Church Street from Cate Avenue South to Nettleton Avenue.

(c)                     Union Street from Burke Avenue South to Elm Avenue.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs reading “NO PARKING FROM 2 A.M. TO 5 A.M.” at appropriate places along the foregoing streets as set forth in this Ordinance and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed $15.00, with each day a violation continues to be a separate offense.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that due to the greatly increased traffic in the vicinity and over the above named streets, the parking of vehicles on said streets and in the locations above mentioned creates a hazard and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 10th day of July, 1967.
