A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO GRANTS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE FY2025 SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM (STEP) FROM THE ARKANSAS STATE POLICE

WHEREAS, applications are now being accepted for the FY2025 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program; and

WHEREAS, the total project cost is $159,997.25, and the City of Jonesboro is requesting $114,997.25 in Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) funding and will provide a local match of $45,000 through in-kind services such as officers’ salaries and fringe benefits, vehicle maintenance and child passenger clinics that are appropriated in the 2024 budget and will be appropriated in the 2025 budget; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, THAT:

SECTION 1: The Jonesboro City Council supports the submission of the 2024 application to the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) for overtime pay for officers to enforce laws regarding seat belts, speed, DWI/DUI and distracted driving (texting/cell phone use). In addition, the City will purchase 125 child safety seats; and

SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the application; and

SECTION 3: The Grants and Community Development department is hereby authorized by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, to submit all necessary documents for this grant.

SECTION 4: The City Council hereby authorize the Mayor and his designee to execute all agreements and contracts regarding any future award of STEP grant funds.
