RESOLUTION REQUIRING ALL RAILWAY CROSSINGS BE CONSTRUCTED ALTERED OR IMPROVED FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE IN JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council of Jonesboro that the manner of constructing, improving and maintaining the railway crossings in the City of Jonesboro by the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Company and the St. Louis and Southwestern Railroad Company creates a hazard to vehicles traveling upon the city streets and crossing such railway crossings; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the type of railway crossings within the City are by in large wooden or concrete poured type crossings and that the same is unsafe and dangerous for vehicles traveling upon the city streets and crossing said railway crossings; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is to the best interest of the citizens of the City of Jonesboro that such railway crossings be of a “rail type” and that the railroad companies be and are hereby required to make all crossings within the City of Jonesboro a “rail type” crossing.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that all railway crossings in the City of Jonesboro which are not of a rail type shall be constructed, altered or improved to make all such crossings “rail type” crossings.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of October, 1967.
