CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, AUGUST 1, 1983

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, August l, 1983, at 7:30 p, m. at the Forum. Present were Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all aldermen except Mr. Stricklin.

The minutes of July 18, 1983, and July 28, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Sanderson, seconded by Mr. Province. All aye.

Mr. Bridger offered the following ordinance:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE PLUMBING CODE FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES:

Concerned citizens asked the council to consider the water problems they are having on and around the Hester Street and the Owens area. Mr. Bridger stated that the Street Committee has reviewed the problems and stated that due to low funds, no recommendation can be offered.

Mike Cameron asked that bids for materials to be used at Craighead Forest be tabled at this time.

The following ordinance was on third reading: (Greenbriar)

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDE FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Park moved to adopt the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Nix. All voted aye. The ordinance was given the number 1842.

The following ordinance was on third reading: (Holly Springs Baptist Church)

AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 4; ZONING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY RESIDENTIAL (R-1); DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Mr. Hannah moved to adopt the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Province. All voted aye. The ordinance was given the number 1843.

The following ordinance was on third reading: (Marcom Street Speed Sign)

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
