The City Council of the City Council of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session at City Hall Monday night, July 15, 1957, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Atty., City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Keister, Johnson, Fritz, Field, Copeland, Stricklin, Brickell, Snow, Hamilton and Hart.

Mr. Bob Haines talked to the Council about a Tractor D-6 and the rental-purchase plan from Riggs Tractor Co. after discussion the Mayor recommended that the Finance and Sanitation Committees meet with him July 16, 1957, at the Riggs Tractor Co. and study the rental-purchase plan and decide on the best thing to do. Mr. Copeland made the motion, seconded by Mr. Brickell, that the Council accepts the Mayor’s recommendation. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

Mr. A.B. Capers, representing the A.B. Capers Co., Mr. Leo P. Scull and R.A. Walsh, representing the Ark. Appraisal Service Co. explained to the Council how the Tax Appraisers work and their method of equalizing property taxes. There was much discussion and the Councilmen asked many questions of the Professional Tax Appraisers. No action was taken.

Mr. Stricklin made the motion, seconded by Mr. Keister, that Gulf Oil Corp. be granted a permit to build a service station at 1003Gee St. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

Mr. Hamilton made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hart, that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

Ordinance #940 was read by Mr. Keister in its entirety for the second reading. Mr. Keister made the motion, seconded by Mr. Copeland, that the word “alley” in Section 1 be deleted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.

A payment of $3000.00 plus interest will be made to Eugene Sloan out of the Parking Meter Fund.

Mr. Hamilton made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hart, that Fire Chief Coleman be allowed $60.00 expenses to attend the State Fire Convention.
