Minutes for the City Council meeting on July 18, 1960

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, July 18, 1960, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Parks, Williams, Smith, Heern, Snow, Kenward, Field, Griffin, Copeland and Ebbert. Absent: Sammons and Brickell.
Mr. Field made the motion seconded by Mr. Smith that the bid from Economy Motors for a new police care Ambassador be accepted at a cost of $2,245.00. Roll was called. All members present voted aye. Motion carried.
After a request from Lindell Hitchcock and Thelma Wilson for a rate increase on taxi service, Mr. Snow made the motion seconded by Mr. Williams that the City Attorney be directed to draw up an ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 809 granting taxi rate increase 10 cents across the board. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Kenward made the motion, seconded by Mr. Heern that the City Attorney draw up an ordinance creating city-wide garbage pick-up and that the charge of $1.00 per month per family be billed by City Water and Light on their regular water and light bills. Roll was called. Voting ay e- Parks, Williams, Smith, Heern, Kenward, Field, Griffin and Ebbert. Voting no - Snow and Copeland. Motion carried.
Mr. Ebbert made the motion, seconded by Mr. Heern that he bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Copeland made the motion, seconded by Mr. Kenward that Council recess until August 8, 1960, at 7:30 p.m. and that the second meeting in August be held on the 22nd. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
