FURTHER REVIEW OF THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT
Mr. Flowers gave the following history of funding for the landfill:
- $423,000 in reserves
- Same as in 1998
- $500,000 in reserves for closing the landfill and $600,000 in reserves for a new landfill
- Appropriated 1 million dollars in Building Maintenance & Grounds for the landfill and pit burner (incinerator).
- Same as in 2000
- Dropped $500,000 because the incinerator did not work out.
- Same as 2002
- Received information from Mr. Shawki that the estimated cost for closing the landfill would be 1.5 million dollars, but does not appear in the budget because they do not expect to be able to build a new landfill this year.
