AN ORINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 2-85 OF THE ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS OF THE JONESBORO PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION FROM FIVE (5) TO SEVEN (7)

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
Section 1: That, pursuant to Arkansas Stat. Ann. §19-3620, Subsection (a) of Section 2-85 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas be amended to increase the membership of its parks and recreation commission form five (5) to seven (7) members. The two (2) additional members of the commission shall be appointed in the manner provided in Section 2-85 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas and shall serve terms of five (5) years. The additional members appointed to the commission shall determine by lot their respective terms in order that the term of one (1) member shall be for three (3) years and the term of the other member shall be for five (5) years. Their successors shall be appointed for five (5) year terms. Said members shall qualify in the same manner as provided for other commission members, and vacancies in either of said additional members positions shall be filled in the manner provided in Section 2-85 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro. Section 2: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that the above amendment to Section 2-35 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas is necessary in order to insure effective and efficient discharge of the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Jonesboro; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the peace, health and safety of the citizens of Jonesboro, Arkansas and said ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.
