AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 888, SAME BEING AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE SPEED OF MOTOR VEHICLES UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO: PROVIDING A PENALTY: DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
Section 1: From and after the passage and adoption of this ordinance, Ordinance No.888 shall be amended by the addition of sub-section (4) of Paragraph (b) of Section 1, as follows:
Section 1 (b) 4: Forty-five miles per hour on Highway 18 (Old Nettleton Road) from Whiteman’s Creek on the East to Metzler Lane on the West.
Section 2: It is found that the recent extension of the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro was such as to take in the portion of highway described herein, and that thereby the speed limit automatically became 30 miles per hour thereon: that such speed is too slow for this particular street and highway thereby creating traffic congestion and a hazard; that a speed limit of 45 miles per hour will improve the flow of traffic and releave the traffic hazard. Therefore, an emergency is found to exist and this ordinance being necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.
