RESOLUTION ABANDONING AN ALLEY RUNNING WEST FROM DEWEY STREET

WHEREAS, the property owner abutting upon a certain alley hereinafter described has filed with the City Council his petition requesting that the City enter into an agreement to close and abandon said alley under authority of Ark. Stats. Anno. §19-3817, which alley is described as follows:
Being a part of the South one-half of the Northeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of Section 27, Township 14 North, Range 4 East, viz: Begin at the Northwest corner of Lot 4 of Block 3 of Watt’s Addition to the Town of Nettleton; thence South 75.5 feet to the Southwest Corner of Lot 4; as a point of beginning proper; thence East 160 feet to the Southeast Corner of Lot 1; thence South 10 feet; thence West 160 feet; thence North 10 feet to the point of beginning proper, being an alley 10 feet wide running West from Dewey Street to the West side of Block 3.
WHEREAS, the Council finds that, although platted, the alley has never been improved or open for public vehicular travel; that the entire length of said alley as described above in Nettleton Station, is owned by your petitioner; that there are public streets both North and South of said alley and within a reasonable distance therefrom and which give adequate vehicular access over and across said property; that the owner of the property abutting on said alley has plans for improvement which are hindered by the existence of the alley and which, if put into effect, would inure to the benefit of the City in general.
IT IS THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that the Mayor and City Clerk be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to enter into a written agreement with the owner of the real estate abutting upon said alley to close and abandon said alley which is hereby declared to be not needed for highway purposes and as to which it is hereby found that the welfare of the City will be enhanced and promoted by...
