CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - OCTOBER 7, 1996

The Jonesboro City Council met Monday, October 7, 1996, at 6:30 p.m. A full quorum was in attendance. Present were: Hubert Brodell, Mayor; Donna Jackson, City Clerk, Phillip Crego, City Attorney; and 11 council members. Those members were: Vance, Wise, Province, Hannah, Young, Rega, Tate, Kelton, Roddy, Perrin, and Harpole.

The minutes of September 3, 1996, were approved as delivered by Councilman Young and seconded by Councilman Harpole. A voice vote was taken resulting in all council members voting aye. Those members voting aye were: Vance, Wise, Province, Hannah, Young, Rega, Tate, Kelton, Roddy, Perrin, and Harpole.

As the first order of business, Leonard Jadrich spoke to Council, requesting recognition of the Unionization of Jonesboro Firefighters Local 3718, and implementation of Payroll deductions for Union dues, similar to that of the current Christmas Club deduction. Mr. Jadrich explained a large percentage of the firemen have joined the Union and wanted to have dues taken from their paycheck. Councilman Harpole questioned Mr. Jadrich's statement "Recognition of the Union". Mr. Jadrich explained he was referring to collective bargaining, that it was their desire to be able to discuss matters pertaining to the Jonesboro Fire Department. He suggested a committee be organized for the purpose of opening up negotiations.

The following ordinance was on the second reading:

ORDINANCE TO VACATE A 120.0' DRAINAGE EASEMENT AND A 146.6' UTILITY EASEMENT ON LOT 6, PARDEW NORTH ADDITION (GUY PARDEW & LAN METZ/ ED STEPP)

No further action was taken regarding this ordinance.
