Metropolitan Area Planning Commission Minutes
May 17, 1957
body
The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in regular session on Thursday, May 17, 1957, at 7:30 P.M., in the Engineering Office of City Water and Light Plant.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Planning Commissioners Jesse Banks, Dean Ellis, Mrs. Clifford Hill, C.D. Frierson, Lloyd Rebsamen, Elmer A. Stuck, and Neal Thayer.
OTHERS PRESENT: Mr. John Voorhees, of the University of Arkansas Planning Division.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Al Hendrix and Minor Markle.
Minutes of meeting held April 11th, 1957, were read and approved.
A plat plan only, of a proposed subdivision called Wewer’s Addition, prepared by Layman and Haywood, was submitted. After discussion, moved by Elmer Stuck, seconded by Dean Ellis, and carried since plat does not show a general location map, drainage proposed, utility layouts, contours, acreage, as required by ordinance passed September 19th, 1957, that action on this subdivision be deferred.
There was a short discussion on the advisability of committees to study the three classes of city zoning, residential, commercial, and industrial. Majority of commission preferred to work as a body, rather than in committees.
Extended discussion was held on zoning matters, particularly on classifications, uses to be permitted and regulations of commercial zones, with Mr. Voorhees.
Commission agreed to meet again on Wednesday, May 29, 1957.
Meeting adjourned.
