A RESOLUTION TO LOCATE CITY PARKS AND OTHER GREENSPACE ADJACENT TO POLICE AND FIRE STATIONS WHERE FEASIBLE

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro owns and maintains fire and police stations and sub-stations and from time to time may seek property for the construction of new fire and police stations or sub-stations;

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro desires to acquire property for parks and other greenspace in areas of the City where new parks and other greenspace are needed and are desirable;

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro wishes to take advantage of opportunities to combine the interests of the Fire, Police and Parks and Recreation Departments whenever possible;

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro wishes to increase the safety and security of its citizens by locating parks and other greenspace adjacent to fire and police stations and sub-stations;

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro recognizes that the quality of the safety and protection of its citizens should be foremost in selecting sites for fire and police stations;

WHEREAS, the authority for determining which areas of the City are in need of new City parks and other greenspace the location of those parks and other greenspace rests with the Parks and Recreation Planning and Advisory Committee;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:

Section 1: That the Fire Department, Police Department and Parks Department of the City of Jonesboro shall work together whenever seeking property for new stations, sub-stations, parks, greenspace, or recreation facilities and that the respective departments will make their best efforts to jointly identify property that meets the criteria for both department’s needs.

Section 2: That should such property be identified, the City of Jonesboro and the Finance Committee of the City Council will make every effort to purchase the entire property to fulfill the needs of both departments.
