RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO ACQUIRE THE ASSISTANCE OF THE ARKANSAS SECRETARY OF STATE IN REDRAWING THE WARD BOUNDARIES BY UTILIZING THEIR SOFTWARE PROGRAM

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas requests the assistance of the Arkansas Secretary of State in re-drawing the six (6) ward boundaries.  The City of Jonesboro recognizes and acknowledges that the assistance provided by the Arkansas Secretary of State is limited to the following:
 
·      Provide access to the software that the City of Jonesboro can use to draw the maps.
·      Provide training on how to use the software.
·      Answering general questions about the software and re-districting issues.  
      
WHEREAS, after the Municipality determines the boundaries for each district, the Secretary of State can assist in creating a map that meets the filing requirements of the Office of the Secretary of State and will be adequate for filing with GIS (Geographic Information Systems); and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro further recognizes and acknowledges it's duty and responsibility to make the decisions concerning  re-districting and for the adoption of a specific plan to be implemented within the City of Jonesboro.  The City of Jonesboro also recognizes and acknowledges the need to have the maps and plans reviewed by their own legal advisor.
 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to acquire the assistance of the Arkansas Secretary of State in redrawing the ward boundaries by utilizing their software program.
