RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE SENATOR JERRY BOOKOUT FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

WHEREAS, Senator Jerry Bookout served as advisory Chairman of the Arkansas House of Representatives and Arkansas Senate for approximately 34 years.  He was elected President pro tempore of the Arkansas Senate in 1991.
 
WHEREAS, he sponsored legislation that elevated his own "Alma Mater" giving Arkansas State College its University status in 1967.  He successfully obtained over $16 million dollars for ASU grants, tuition, scholarships and various improvements. He helped establish a doctorial and physical therapy program at Arkansas State University.
 
WHEREAS, he helped obtain funding for the ASU Convocation Center which has become a great asset to the City of Jonesboro.
 
WHEREAS, he served as Co- chairman of the Correctional Sub-committee of the Arkansas Legislative Council.  They acknowledged state issues and needs such as prisons, rehabilitation for inmates, and establishing boot camp for young offenders.
 
WHEREAS, he served his nation through military service "ROTC" for three years and he continued with the Arkansas National Guard, retiring with the rank of Colonel after 30 years with many distinguishing medals.
 
WHEREAS, the life of Senator Jerry Bookout was very fulfilling.  He will always be remembered as a "Best Friend" and a "True Public Servant" to the City of Jonesboro.
 
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that Jerry Bookout be recognized for his many accomplishments.
