WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro adopted Ordinance No. 3239 establishing the Department of Planning, Inspection and Code Enforcement and placing these departments under the direct supervision of the City Planner and the City Pay Plan includes the position of Code Enforcement Officer in the Planning Department;

WHEREAS, effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of operations can best be realized, and the public best served, by removing the Code Enforcement officers known as the Condemnation and Weeds/Grass Officers from the department of Planning, Inspection and Code Enforcement under the direction of a City Planner and assigning those officers to the Police Department under the direction of the Chief of Police.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro;

SECTION 1: That Title 13 of the Jonesboro Municipal Code by hereby amended by adding Sections 13.04.04 and 13.04.05 to Chapter 13.04 entitled Planning, Inspection and Code Enforcement Department and shall read as follows:

Section 13.04.04 Certain Functions of Code Enforcement Assigned to the Police Department
Those personnel assigned to the Code Enforcement known as the Condemnation and Weed/Grass Officers whose duties primarily focus on condemnation, weeds, grass, trash and other public nuisances shall fall under the supervision and purview of the Police Department in order to more efficiently deal with those issues associated with public health and safety.
