AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING MAXIMUM TIME LIMITS FOR PARKING ON CITY STREETS AND PARKING LOTS WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES (NOTE: THIS ORDINANCE WAS AMENDED BY ORD-80:1912 ON APRIL 21, 1980; ORD-84:1689 ON APRIL 16, 1984; ORD-84:1663 ON OCTOBER 1, 1984)

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
 
Section 1: From and after the passage of this ordinance, there shall be a two hour limit for parking vehicles on all city streets and on the following parking lots:
 
(a) The parking lot on Church Street;
(b) The parking lot on Main Street;
(c) The parking lot located on the corner of Church & Jefferson;
(d) The parking lot located behind City Hall;
 
Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is directed to place and locate upon the above described streets and on the above described parking lots, appropriate signs at the appropriate places which designate two hour time limits for parking, and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.
 
Section 3: Every person convicted of such violations of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty (.50) cents per each violation and each hour in excess of the two hour limit shall constitute a separate offense for the purposes of this ordinance.
 
Section 4: All ordinance and/or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
 
Section 5: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that parking in the downtown area needs to be regulated so that the citizens, merchants and visitors have adequate parking in the downtown area, and therefore, an emergency is declared to exist for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
