RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO ELECT A MUNICIPAL JUDGE TO SERVE OUT THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF MUNICIPAL JUDGE E.D. McGOWAN; DESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO; SETTING THE DATE FOR FILING BY CANIDATES; AND PRESCRIBING THE FILING PLACES IN THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS

WHEREAS, a vacancy has occurred in the office of Municipal Judge of Craighead County, Arkansas; and,
WHEREAS, Municipal Judge E.D. McGowan resigned his office on or about November 1, 1970, leaving two years to run on his expired term; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary and proper that a special election be called for the purpose of electing a Municipal Judge to serve out the unexpired term of E.D. McGowan; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this Resolution is to submit the question of electing a Municipal Judge to the electors of the Western District of Craighead County, Arkansas, at a special election called for that purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro:
(1) That a special election be and the same is hereby called to be held in the Western District of Craighead County, Arkansas, on the 12th day of January, 1971, at which election the voters of the Western District of Craighead County, Arkansas, will elect a Municipal Judge to serve out the unexpired term of retired Judge E.D. McGowan.
(2) All candidates must file for the office of Municipal Judge on or before 12:00 o’clock noon on December 21, 1970.
(3) That the election shall be held and conducted and the vote canvassed and the results declared under the law and in the manner provided by Arkansas Statutes, so far as the same may be applicable, and the Mayor of the City of Jonesboro and the Sheriff of Craighead County shall give notice of such election by advertisement in a newspaper having a bona fide circulation in the City and the Western District of Craighead County, Arkansas, with the last publication to be not less than ten days prior to the date of th...
